23-39 EASTCHEAP ESTATE

A stylistically varied collection of buildings located within the Eastcheap Conservation Area. 23-29 Eastcheap and 31-35 Eastcheap are Grade II and Grade II* Listed whilst 37-39 Eastcheap is not listed but makes a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area.

The buildings were comprehensively refurbished to create high quality Cat A offices and the variously articulated facades restored to their former glory. By developing a close working relationship with the City of London planning officers we secured permission to create an additional storey of office accommodation behind mansard roofs on each of the three properties.

The centrepiece of the Estate is the Grade II* listed 31- 35 Eastcheap, designed by renowned English architect Robert Roumieu, and is a masterpiece of idiosyncratic ‘rogue’ Victorian Gothic architecture.

It is complemented by the Grade II listed building at 23-25 Eastcheap designed by John Young & Sons and the buildings work together to form a terrace of high architectural quality.

Whilst the existing facades were carefully restored to emphasise their significance within the streetscape the building interiors were designed in a contemporary style. Internal features such as circular cast iron columns and original brickwork were left exposed to celebrate the history of this fascinating group of buildings.
