11 WATERLOO PLACE

This Grade II Listed building, located in the St James’s Conservation Area in Westminster, had been refurbished in the early 21st Century and was in need of an interior fabric upgrade. The office accommodation was fully reinterpreted by removing all suspended ceilings to leave only a central core bulkhead for services distribution. The resulting perimeter space, approximately 3.6m in height, was brought back to life by repairing and expressing the historic cornicing details. These cornices and soffits were further enhanced by suspending new linear up-and-down LED light fittings within each architectural bay. With simple, careful detailing the change in appearance of the office accommodation has been striking. The entrance area was redesigned to provide a new reception desk in-keeping with the existing ornate lift enclosure whilst the external stone facades were professionally cleaned.
