Regent Street Block W5
Client: The Crown Estate
Behind the retained Regent Street facade, the redevelopment of Triumph House and 13-17 New Burlington Place combines office, retail and restaurant space within this tight urban site. Inspired by its context, the new architecture is both dramatic and contemporary, with layers of folded Portland stone walls defining the townscape of New Burlington Place and new hard landscaping and public art rejuvenating previously under-used urban space. The building addresses environmental issues with rainwater harvesting, CHPs, photovoltaic panels, a concrete frame for high thermal mass and recessed windows to enhance shading all contributing to a BREEAM “Excellent” rating, and the building using 40% less energy than a typical building of its size. Now the Crown Estate’s headquarters, they notably achieved the first Green Lease for a commercial property in London. The building was subsequently shortlisted for the RIBA awards.
