20-22 Greenwich Church Street
Client: Greenwich Hospital
Over a number of years we have assisted Greenwich Hospital in upgrading their considerable property portfolio. Originally commissioned in the 1840s as a redevelopment of the medieval market, the income from these properties continues to support the Hospital’s charitable work. The older listed buildings in the portfolio were designed in the enlightened classical style by Joseph Kay circa 1840, and lie within the Greenwich World Heritage Site. The works at 20-22 Greenwich Church Street included a contextual design for a replacement structure as an extension to the existing terrace. The opportunity was taken to restore and adjust detailing on the remainder of the terrace to harmonise the whole. The entirely inconspicuous new building contains apartments on upper levels and a shop at ground floor.
