This major refurbishment of CBRE’s old headquarters building sought fundamentally to transform the perception of this well-known building. The existing building was a 1980s development behind a retained facade and was compromised in a number of ways. Dramatically redesigning the lightwell to encourage more daylight into the office accommodation and extending the roof with a contemporary metal and glass construction above the traditional slate mansard not only increased the lettable floor area but also re-imagined what this building could be within the constraints of the brief. The reception area was designed in conjunction with Rients Ltd and the building was occupied on a pre-let by Coca–Cola, and is now their Central London headquarters.
