1 Albemarle Street
Client: CBRE Global Investors
This Grade II listed building on the corner of Piccadilly and Albemarle Street was designed as shops and a hotel in 1887 by Ernest George and Peto. Since its extensive reconstruction in the 1990’s, piecemeal alterations had left it looking decidedly weary. We were invited to reinvigorate the entrance loggia, which retains exceptional Art Deco bronze and terracotta work, and re-image reception and the common parts to surpass the increasingly high standards expected in this part of Mayfair. Muted porcelain mega-slabs were combined with leather, marble, fumed oak and new lighting to create richly understated business interiors. With the building remaining in continuous occupation, we also undertook phased Cat A refurbishment of the upper office floors.
